PanEuCOPT - COST ACTION CA24127

Pan European Commission on Photoantimicrobial Testing

PanEuCOPT is a COST Action bringing together researchers, clinicians and industry to develop comparable guidelines, illumination standards and education frameworks for photoantimicrobials across Europe.

Description of the project

Advancing Photoantimicrobial Technologies Across Europe

PanEuCOPT is a pan-European COST Action that aims to unify and advance the field of photoantimicrobial technologies. By bringing together leading researchers, clinicians, and industry partners, the Action addresses the lack of standardisation in photodynamic inhibition (PDI) through harmonised terminology, education, testing protocols, and illumination guidelines.

PanEuCOPT seeks to generate robust, comparable data and support the translation of PDI towards clinical studies and regulatory acceptance as a sustainable alternative to conventional antibiotics.

Working Groups

Together, the five Working Groups operate as an integrated framework from terminology to clinical translation.

WG1. Terminology

Harmonises terminology in photoantimicrobial research by defining key terms and establishing a common language to support clear communication and data comparability.

WG2. Education

Develops open-access educational materials and training activities to build capacity and integrate photoantimicrobial concepts into education and professional practice.

WG3. Guidelines

Establishes harmonised testing guidelines and standard operating procedures for photoantimicrobial research within a One Health framework.

WG4. Illumination

Defines and standardises illumination parameters and device requirements to ensure reliable, safe, and reproducible photoantimicrobial testing.

WG5. Dissemination

Coordinates communication and outreach activities to increase visibility, engage stakeholders, and disseminate outcomes.
